If you have been driving up Redwood Rd to Proctor Elementary School you may have seen the new No U-turn signs! Finally no more U-turns at the intersection with Proctor Rd. Unfortunately, U-turns in front of the cross walk are still allowed.
Many parents at Proctor Elementary, be it on foot or driving, have had close encounters with cars making a U-turn. During the busy drop-off and pick-up times, there is simply too much traffic to make a U-turn without cutting into the path of a driver coming from the opposite direction or making a right turn into Redwood Rd, or getting too close to pedestrians in the crosswalks. There is plenty of room to make U-turns after the intersection where U-turns do not endanger fellow parents driving or walking to school.
For many years the school principal has been asking parents not to make U-turns in front of the school, with little effect. Let’s hope the new No U-turn signs will improve the situation and that the CHP is going to enforce them!
